BINTULU, 14 MAR — SOP Foundation handed over 168 pairs of prescription spectacles to residents of Rumah Buli, following a vision screening programme held earlier on 22 November 2025 under the SOP Foundation’s Vision Care Project. The initiative aims to enhance vision health and provide accessible eye care to local communities.

The handover event was held at Rumah Buli, which served as the main venue for the programme. Residents from seven neighbouring longhouses — Rumah Unjie, Rumah Randi, Rumah Ramli, Rumah Kalip, Rumah Janggu, Rumah Kawie, and Rumah Luming — were also invited to participate, broadening the programme’s outreach and impact.

The spectacles were distributed following a previous vision screening session conducted in collaboration with Miri Specvision Optometry, where approximately 250 residents underwent free eye examinations and consultations. All prescription glasses provided are fully sponsored by SOP Foundation.

Representing SOP Foundation and their respective estates, Dirkensky Anak Dix and Sam Lim Kien Hock, Estate Managers of SOP Kuala Tatau 1 and Kuala Tatau 2 Estates, attended the handover ceremony.

EM Sam Lim shared, “Many residents from the eight longhouses expressed their heartfelt gratitude upon receiving the prescription spectacles. They shared that the support has been very meaningful to them and will be helpful in their daily activities. We are glad that this initiative is making a meaningful difference, and SOP Foundation remains committed to supporting rural communities with accessible and quality vision care”.

SOP Foundation extended its appreciation to the estate teams, Miri Specvision Optometry, and the communities of Rumah Buli and its neighbouring longhouses for their cooperation and support in making the programme a success.

As the Vision Care Project continues to reach more regions, SOP Foundation remains dedicated to improving community wellbeing through accessible healthcare support.

Further rounds of screenings and spectacles handover events are planned in the coming year to benefit more local communities.
