SOP Foundation Completes Spectacles Distribution for Penan Community

MIRI, 11 APRIL — SOP Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to community eye health through a spectacles handover session for the Penan community residing near Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club.

The handover marks the completion of Vision Care screening conducted last year under SOP Foundation’s Vision Care Project. Approximately 90 participants, comprising both children and adults, took part in the earlier screening exercise. Of these, 56 individuals were identified during the screening as requiring spectacles and received them during this session.

The initiative was carried out with the support of Miri Specvision Optometry, whose team conducted the earlier screenings and consultations. All related costs, including screenings, consultations, and prescription spectacles, are fully sponsored by SOP Foundation.

Representing SOP Foundation, Iris Yong, Administrator of SOP Foundation, expressed appreciation for the community’s support.

She said, “It is meaningful to see the completion of last year’s screening through today’s handover, where beneficiaries are now able to receive their prescribed spectacles. SOP Foundation remains committed to continuing its Vision Care Project to reach more communities in need.”

A member of the Penan community shared her appreciation, saying, “We are grateful for the fully sponsored spectacles. This has been very helpful for our Penan community here.”

Moving forward, SOP Foundation will commence the Vision Care Project for 2026 throughout the year, continuing its efforts to promote accessible eye care and community wellbeing.
