Third Round of Vision Care Project 2026 in Sg. Asap Region, Benefiting Students from Two Schools
SOP Foundation has successfully conducted the third round of its Vision Care Project 2026 in the Sg. Asap region, with the programme involving two (2) schools: SK Batu Keling and SK Uma Sambop.
The eye screening was conducted at SK Batu Keling, with students from SK Batu Keling and SK Uma Sambop attending the programme. The screening covered students from the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) through Year 6, with hundreds of students participating in the eye screening. The screening was conducted by the appointed optometry provider.
The screening included visual acuity tests and comprehensive eye examinations using digital diagnostic equipment and manual assessment methods to identify vision issues and determine the appropriate prescription. The screening results will be reviewed by the optometry team in Miri, after which spectacles will be prepared and provided to students who require them.
The Vision Care Project is part of SOP Foundation’s continued commitment to supporting education and community well-being in Sarawak. Good vision is important for learning, classroom participation and daily activities.
The project also aims to improve access to eye care for students in rural and remote communities, where access to specialised healthcare services may be limited. Through early identification of vision problems and appropriate corrective measures, the project helps students access the eye care they need while reducing the financial burden on their families.
Following the Sg. Asap programme, the next round of the Vision Care Project will be conducted in Long Laput, Baram. The Vision Care Project will continue to reach more schools and communities in the coming years, supporting SOP Foundation’s efforts to promote accessible eye care and contribute to the well-being of communities across Sarawak.
